The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Calling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling image of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team could be crafting a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
